Dr. Peter Blodgett has years of experience in all areas of dentistry. He has been with West Side Dental since he graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1989 and is a graduate of Luther College (85). He comes from a long line of dentistry practitioners in Decorah, preceded by his father, Dr. Jim Blodgett, and his grandfather, Dr. John Blodgett.
Dr. Blodgett maintains his certification as a CEREC doctor (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) and is also a provider for SureSmile clear orthodontic aligners. In addition to practicing at West Side Dental, Dr. Blodgett also volunteers with the Decorah Free Dental Clinic and annually travels with a group of fellow dentists to provide dental services to the residents of Berln, El Salvador. He and his wife, Linda, have two sons, Evan and Jared, and enjoy spending time with their new grandson, Rhett. In his leisure time, Dr. Blodgett enjoys biking on the Trout Run Trail, hunting, and creating pottery at his home.
Dr. Lana McDermott joined the West Side Dental family in 2011 after she graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. She is also a graduate of Luther College (07) and is active in the Decorah community.
Dr. McDermott maintains her certification as a CEREC doctor (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) and is also a preferred provider for Invisalign clear orthodontic aligners. In addition to general dentistry, Dr. McDermott recently received training and certifications with the AAFE (American Academy of Facial Esthetics) for Botox, Dermal Fillers, and TMJ & Facial Pain Therapy Techniques.
When not practicing dentistry, Dr. McDermott and her husband, Patrick, enjoy going on outdoor adventures and traveling with their three children, Lottie, Mack, and Dane. She loves spending quality time with friends and family, and appreciates a good cup of coffee, shopping, and interior decorating at her home.
Dr. McDermott loves to see patients of all ages and is especially focused on providing nurturing care to pediatric patients and helping patients to achieve their optimal smile with esthetic dentistry.
Dr. John Wilmes has been part of the West Side Dental family since 2007. After practicing for a large dental group in Oregon, he and his family moved to Decorah and has been practicing here ever since.
Dr. Wilmes received his dental education from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry where he graduated with honors for oral medicine in 2006. Dr. Wilmes maintains his certification as a CEREC doctor (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) and is also a provider for SureSmile clear orthodontic aligners. In addition to providing care to his patients at West Side Dental, Dr. Wilmes is an active learner who is extensively involved in Continuing Education. He is an active member of Spear Education (a multi-specialty study club in Rochester, MN) and also holds a fellowship with the Academy of General Dentistry and is currently pursuing his masters in the AGD.
Dr. Wilmes and his wife, Jamie, have 3 children, Norah, Alex, and Holden. As an avid cyclist, golfer and fisherman, you can find him during the warmer months on the river teaching his kids to waterski, playing double bogey golf at Silver Springs Golf Course, or biking on the Trout Run Trail.
