Dr. Chelians journey to being an orthodontist in New Jersey was an adventure crossing oceans and mountains multiple times. He was born in South India as the youngest of 3 brothers, who are also orthodontists. Starting with humble beginnings after immigrating to San Diego, CA with his family he learned early the importance of education and hard work.
After graduating with honors from the University of California, Dr. Chelian moved to the east coast to pursue dental school at Howard University, in Washington, DC. This is where he met his wife, Tirza Valenzuela, who is originally from Chile but grew up in North Jersey. He and his wife moved to Las Vegas, NV where he completed his orthodontic specialty residency at Roseman University and practiced orthodontics in Nevada and Arizona. After living in the desert, far from family for nearly 7 years he decided to move closer to family in Northern New Jersey and Boston.
Our practice has been established in Union City, New Jersey for over 30 years and was founded by Dr. Gary Weitz whom Dr. Chelian worked alongside till Dr. Weitzs retirement in 2017. Dr. Chelian is honored to treat generations of families who have trusted our practice for nearly 40 years.
Outside of the office he enjoys traveling, hiking, reading, and trying new restaurants. He learned to cook at an early age and still finds it a relaxing hobby which he does often for friends and family. His goal for 2020 is to eat healthier and to learn Spanish. He lives in Northern New Jersey with his wife Tirza and their 5-year-old daughter, Dalia, and his 2-year-old daughter, Dasha.
