Dr. Tran Hoang graduated Phi Betta Kappa and Cum Laude from UC Irvine where she majored in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and minored in Womens Studies. She then attended UCLA School of Dentistry where she graduated with numerous honors, including the coveted Pacific Coast Society for Prosthodontics and the Section Award in Pediatric Dentistry. After dental school, Dr. Hoang completed a three year residency program in Advanced Prosthodontics at UCLA.
Dr. Hoang recognizes the importance of community, giving and education. While attending UCLA, she served as the UCLA-USC Mobile Clinic coordinator, a program which brought dental care to underserved areasthroughout Los Angeles. She also went abroad to Honduras and Fiji as part of dental outreach teams. While in private practice, Dr. Hoang worked with Kerrys Kids, a non-profit organization which provided free mobile health care to homeless children at shelters throughout the East Bay. She also served as an assistant clinical professor at UCSF in both general dentistry and removable prosthodontics.
As a prosthodontist, Dr. Hoang specializes in difficult dental problems and challenging restorations including crowns and bridges, partials and dentures, and implant dentistry. While her advanced training informs her on how to better offer treatment options, she enjoys treating the most simple to the most complex dental cases. Her philosophy is to be as minimally invasive as possible and to protect and prevent potential dental issues. She takes pride in using the most trusted and advanced technology available, including laser and digital dentistry.
Dr. Shaffer is a board certified pediatric dentist. He earned his undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley and his Doctor of Dental Surgery from UCLA. He then obtained a Master of Science degree in Oral and Craniofacial Biology from UCSF while concurrently completing advanced specialty training in pediatric dentistry at UCSF and at Children's Hospital Oakland.
Dr. Shaffer continues to stay involved in academia and is a former assistant clinical professor at UCSF in the department of pediatric dentistry and currently is a part-time faculty member at UCSF-Children 's Hospital Oakland. He has lectured on topics ranging from oral sedation safety protocols to emerging non-invasive ways of treating dental caries ('cavities'). He additionally spends time treating underserved patients abroad, and has traveled to both Honduras and Fiji for dental outreach trips. He regularly takes continuing education courses on all phases of dentistry, as well as in pediatric dentistry consistent with keeping his status as a board certified pediatric dentist.
Born and raised in Alameda, California, Dr. Shaffer is proud to call the Bay Area his home. He enjoys running, cycling, snowboarding, and rooting for the Golden State Warriors and San Francisco Giants. He also enjoys going to the beach and spending time with his wife, two children, and dog, Buster.
