Being a dental professional is a great responsibility. I find helping my patients understand how dentistry can make their lives healthier and happier to be very rewarding. The best part of my job is getting to know my patients, many of whom have been coming to the office since I started practicing. I enjoy catching up with old friends and meeting new ones.

My path to dentistry began in Topeka, where I grew up. I earned biology and chemistry degrees from Washburn University, and continued my education at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where I earned my Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1993. After graduation, my wife Patricia and I moved to Lawrence, where weve been happy to be a part of such an active community.

Through the years, I have continued my education with the Spear Study Club to keep up to date with cutting-edge dentistry, and have attended continuing education seminars on a variety of topics. Inaddition, Im an active member in the American Dental Association and the Douglas County Dental Society.

Our home has always been very busy with our four children: Thomas, Meg, and the twins John and Matthew. Thomas and Meg are students at KU, and John and Matthew are seniors at Lawrence High School. We also have two big Labs and two cats we adopted from the Lawrence Humane Society. Our third cat arrived at our home in the undercarriage of our daughters car, and stayed.

In my spare time, I work on restoring my 1969 Mustang convertible, enjoy being a member of the Lawrence Antique Auto Club and American Legion, and am an active member of the Boy Scouts.I have proudly seen two sons earn their Eagle Scout rank. I am also a retired Major from the Kansas Army National Guard, in whichI served as the State Dental Officer.

Welcome to our practice! I enjoy being a dentist, especially developing personal relationships with patients. Getting to know my patients is very rewarding, but helping them live healthier and more comfortable lives is what fulfills me as a practitioner.

As part of the Lawrence community, I care about our patients. They are the people I see at sporting events and the hardware store. I work hard to provide the highest quality of care for each individual with a compassionate touch.

Continuing education is very important to my personal and professional growth as a dentist. I am currently a member of a Spear Institute Study Club and have attended numerous seminars at the Spear Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona. Getting together with my partners and other dentists to discuss oral health challenges and further our learning is essential to my ability to deliver good care to my patients.

Our team is a great group of people. It consists of women who are courteous and compassionate, and who work very hard to make patients feel comfortable while they are in the office. The connections we make with our patients help build trust, which is very important to us.

I am originally from Topeka and have lived in Lawrence for about 20 years. My wife Katie and I are blessed to have twin boys who bring us so much joy, and just about the same amount of frustration! When I have a little free time, I enjoy family, travel, sports, exercise, music, cooking, and the arts.

Philanthropically, I have served on various boards in Lawrence, including Health Start, the Lied Center, United Way, and Catholic Charities. From a dental perspective, I have served in numerous capacities and on committees for the Kansas Dental Association, and have had the opportunity to serve on multiple committees and councils for the American Dental Association at their headquarters in Chicago. Recently, I was selected to become a member of the American College of Dentists, and currently serve as the president of our local chapter.

Being a dentist is professionally and personally rewarding. I am able to move a person out of pain, restore the ability to chew properly, change a smile, and build lasting relationships that go beyond provider and patient. My work doesnt feel like a job. Instead, my days are filled with interesting conversations, the opportunity to improve lives, and time with wonderful people.

Im a firm believer that people should understand the importance of oral health. I know that the more peopleknowabout their mouth, how what happens in it affects the rest of their body and vice versa, and how to care for it, the better off they will be. I want our patients to have a lifetime of health: both overall and for their smile!

I entered the dental field knowing I wanted to make a difference in the well-being, health, and happiness of others. I graduated from dental school in 2005, joined our practice, and have never doubted the wisdom of my decision! I love getting to know our patients on a personal level, and creating a trusting relationship with each. Hearing their stories, and sharing in their lives, keeps my days full and rewarding.

Each of our team members brings unique skills and experience to our practice. Together, were united in our goal to make each patient feel welcome, comfortable, and safe, regardless of the reason for their visit. While we are educated and professional, we never forget the all-essential human aspect of dentistry. We believe in having fun and offering a positive, supportive environment where patients are cared for as family.

I attend multiple continuing education meetings and complete many courses each year. Its exciting to be practicing dentistry now: advances in technologies and techniques allow us to provide amazing care and incredible results, painlessly!

In addition to attending conferences and lectures, Im a member of the Spear Education Study Club. These monthly meetings bring together oral healthcare colleagues and peers to discuss and learn from case studies. Collaborative learning means the best treatment for our patients.

After growing up in Wichita, I now call Lawrence my home. My wife Melissa and I are enjoying raising our twin daughters, Avery and Claire, and our sons, Lawson and Benjamin, in this wonderful community.

When Im not caring for patients, I love quality time with my family, especially when were enjoying the outdoors. I also like attending games at the University of Kansas, cheering for the Kansas City Royals, golfing, and flyfishing.
