Dr. David McAninch was born and raised in Lompoc, CA. He graduated fromCabrillo High School, and attended California Polytechnic State Universityat San Luis Obispo for his Bachelors degree. He then attended theUniversity of Southern California Ostrow School of Dentistry, where hediscovered his passion for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS). Followingdental school, he completed his OMS residency at the University of thePacific, and the Alameda County Medical Center Highland Hospital inOakland and San Francisco. Dr. McAninch also recently earned hiscertification as a Diplomate from the American Board of Oral andMaxillofacial Surgery. This achievement represents the highest distinctionwithin the specialty and that the surgeon has satisfied a rigorousapplication and examination process.
As a native Lompocan, Dr. McAninch is thrilled be able to provide serviceto the people in his hometown. He possesses a unique perspective on thearea and its residents, and enjoys seeing old friends and making new ones.

Dr. McAninch met his wife, Elyse (also Dr. McAninch), in dental school. Shepractices orthodontics on the Central Coast and they are both very excitedto be back in the Santa Barbara Country. They welcomed the arrival of theirfirst born, Bruce in 2017. In their spare time, they enjoy raising their son,working on home renovation projects, their two dogs, golfing, and spendingtime with family at Lake Nacimiento.
Dr. Robert S. Kiken is a graduate of the NYC College of Dentistry; and he trained in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Lincoln Medical Center in the Bronx, NY, the busiest surgical emergency hospital in New York City. While there, Dr. Kiken received extensive training in oral and facial reconstruction. Following his internship and residency, he remained at Lincoln as a teaching attending surgeon, instructing students. During this time, he was also an instructor for residents at Nassau County Medical Center on Long Island, NY.
In 1983, Dr. Kiken and his family moved to Santa Barbara, CA, where he started his private practice. He also became a staff member at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Goleta Valley Hospital, and St. Francis Hospital. He is an expert in his specialty, with vast experience in facial reconstruction and dentistry, especially the surgical placement of dental implants and bone grafting procedures. He has continued to maintain a strong presence at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, performing maxillofacial procedures, instructing residents, giving lectures, and serving as the Chair of the Ear, Nose, and Throat Department. He also serves on the Trauma Team at Cottage Hospital, treating medically compromised patients in a hospital setting.
In 1990, Dr. Kiken, became a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He recertified in 1997 and 2008. He is also Board Certified by the National Board of Dental Anesthesiology. He is an onsite anesthesia examiner for the California Dental Board, and an instructor in basic and advanced cardiac life support.
In his free time, Dr. Kiken takes advantage of Santa Barbaras local activities, including cycling, running, shooting hoops, and golf. He often ventures out on scuba diving and heli-skiing excursions when time permits. He and his wife Susan enjoy adventure travel, and time with their friends and extended family. Known for his spot-on sense of humor, Dr. Kiken puts all his patients at ease with a great story or anecdote. When you meet with him, you can be confident that your care is in the best hands.
A veteran with Dr. Kiken, Angela heads the surgical assisting team. She is certified as an oral surgery assistant for hospital and surgical suite surgeries. Her warm nature always makes our patients and teammates feel well taken care of. She has been invaluable to the practice for over 25 years!
Cande has been with Dr. Kiken for over 13 years as his surgical assistant. As a certified oral surgery assistant, she assists in hospital and surgical suite surgeries. Cande has over 12 years of prior experience in dental assisting and management. Her wonderful, positive nature always makes everyones day better. She has a smile and a joke for everyone! Her husband and two sons keep her busy!
Our Insurance Supervisor, Jana, has been with Dr. Kiken for over five years and expertly manages our patient insurance coordination. Native to Santa Barbara and a graduate of UCSB in Environmental Studies, Jana helps keep our whole office green and environmentally friendly.
Alyssa is a member of our Surgical Team as well as Community Outreach in Santa Barbara. Alyssa is a jack of all trades, including a Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Assistant. Always the spark of energy in the office, Alyssa lends her humor and wit to every situation, helping to make our patients feel at ease.
Donna joined our team in 2017. She completed her training as an Expanded Function Dental Assistant IUNW in 1987, and currently works as our Patient Coordinator, education our patients with regards to their insurance benefits and treatment needs. She loves working with a long-term staff and learning the newest procedures available to our patients.
