Dr. Aparna Menon grew up in India among a family of physicians. She was blessed with strong female role models (including her mother and aunt, who are both doctors) who taught her the value of independence in a society that gives males preferential treatment. Education was a top priority in her family. Money, she was taught, can come and go, but education is something that no one can take away.
Dr. Menon doesnt even remember going to the dentist as a child in India. As she grew older, she realized that dentistry wasnt given nearly enough attention. This combined with the fact that there were no dentists in her family made her decide to pursue dentistry as a career.
Dr. Menon got high marks in her national examination scores, which meant she was able to go to the top universities in India. After earning her Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from Manipal University, she had the opportunity to come to the United States. When she got here, she studied at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, formerly the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). She was on the deans honor list for two years and graduated in 2015 before going through a yearlong residency at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She has advanced training in cosmetic dentistry and dental implantology. She has earned her fellowship at the AAIP. She will be awarded her ICOI fellowship in November 2022.
She understands that each patients needs are unique and strives to develop treatment plans based on an in-depth understanding of her patients needs and goals for the best outcome. Shes committed to providing the highest caliber of care in the most comfortable setting. To further her dental knowledge and provide the best care she can, Dr. Menon still takes continuing education credits. She also stays up-to-date on the latest advances in dentistry through memberships in the following professional organizations:
Dr. Menon practices sedation dentistry to help her anxious patients. She is multilingual; she speaks English, Hindi, and Malayalam. She also serves as a Captain in the US Army Reserves. She is an avid runner and has completed several half marathons and full marathons. Her favorite thing to do is spend time with her husband, Rajive, and her son, Shaan. Dr. Menon also enjoys traveling, cooking, and reading.
Dr. Menon is a firm believer in karma. In her opinion, what goes around, comes around so its important to do right by people. She strives to treat people how she wants to be treated because she believes if you put good out there, it comes back to you.
Dr. Mitchel Friedman graduated from Middletown High School in 1976 and received a bachelors degree from Rutgers College four years later. He went on to earn a doctorate of dental surgery (DDS) from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry, where he graduated in the top 15 percent of his class. He then moved back to Monmouth County to attend the general practice residency program at Monmouth Medical Center.
Soon after starting his own practice, Dr. Friedman performed over 500 hours of postgraduate continuing education to obtain his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD) in 1990. In 2010 he completed an additional 1,000 hours to earn his mastership a distinction that only 2 percent of all dentists have achieved! He is currently an attending doctor on staff and part-time clinical instructor at the Monmouth Medical Center, where he teaches advanced dental techniques and sedation to newly graduated dentists.
Dr. Friedman is one of only a few general dentists in New Jersey to be certified to perform IV sedation in his office. This gives patients the opportunity to have all phases of dental care performed in a single location while comfortably and safely sedated. He is also a Fellow in the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation.
Dr. Friedman keeps his finger on the pulse of innovations in dental techniques and technology by staying current with the latest literature. He has even written his own book called Changing Lives One Smile at a Time, which you can purchase online. He also regularly takes continuing education courses 300 percent more than the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry annually requires of active dentists! He was the first to bring Dentistry From The Heart to New Jersey in 2006 and has hosted the charity event every year since to give back to our community.
When he is not helping his patients, Dr. Friedman can be found working on his classic cars a 1972 MG-B and 1960 MG-A or doing home repairs. He is active in scuba diving, skiing, boating, fishing, and tennis. His wife, Adrienne, teaches at Brookdale Community College. They have three adult children, Gillian, Jared, and Hannah.
As a child, Dr. Rana Sayroo always had positive experiences with her family dentist and looked forward to her checkups. The pleasant treatment she received from her dentist, along with encouragement from her family, motivated her to pursue dentistry as a career.
Dr. Sayroo is a native of Tampa, Florida and a graduate of King High School. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida. (Go Gators!) Dr. Sayroo attended the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, where she was awarded her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. During her years at VCU, she spent many hours volunteering for Mission of Mercy projects that gave her the opportunity to provide high-quality dental care to underserved Virginians.
Dr. Sayroo then took her education a step further by enrolling in a general practice residency at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey. The residency took a multidisciplinary approach to providing comprehensive dental care to a diverse group of patients.
Dr. Sayroo provides ethical and evidence-based dentistry while focusing on her patients needs and concerns. She routinely takes continuing education courses to enhance her knowledge and stay on the leading edge of the ever-changing world of dentistry. Dr. Sayroo is also a member in good standing of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the New Jersey Dental Association. She aims to deliver high-quality dental care in a comfortable and pleasant environment, similar to the one she experienced as a child.
In her spare time, Dr. Sayroo enjoys working out, spending time with her family, traveling, and baking. She especially likes to bake different desserts based on recipes passed down from her grandfather, who owned a bakery in Florida. In her undergraduate years, Dr. Sayroo was a member of several dance teams and still enjoys practicing traditional Indian dance styles.
