While were committed to providing prompt treatment, we dont rush patients. We take the time to evaluate their current oral health conditions, explore surgical solutions, and make sure we pick the right treatment for each individual patients needs. Once patients feel completely confident in their treatment plan, well complete the process as efficiently as possible.
New Frontier Oral Surgery has created an office environment that is stress free, comfortable, and relaxing. Patients tell us they dont even feel like theyre at a dental office, and thats just the way we like it. We want our patients to feel right at home.
Dr. Karpovck was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and completed his undergraduate studies in Chemistry and pre-Medicine. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree at Oral Roberts University School of Dentistry in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Following dental school, Dr. Karpovck completed a four year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. During those four years, he trained extensively in all surgical corrections of facial deformities and plastic surgery procedures. He developed a close relationship with specialists in prosthetics for the placement of dentures, crowns, and bridges with dental implants.
For an additional two years, Dr. Karpovck continued his education at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry to receive a certificate in the specialty of Orthodontics. Dr. Karpovck is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and is certified in Basic and Advanced Life Support. Dr. Karpovck is the only dual specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial and Orthodontics in the State of Florida.
Although Dr. Karpovck enjoys practicing the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery he has a special interest in complex dental implant surgery, especially those involving bone graft reconstruction.
One thing that makes patients hesitate before receiving dental implant supported tooth replacement is the thought of waiting several weeks or months between implant placement and smile restoration. This is especially true for patients in need of a more complex prosthetic such as partial and full dentures. Thats why we offer patients temporary overdentures and overpartials that can typically be worn immediately following implant placement. These custom crafted restorations protect the implantation sites, and help preserve patients oral health, ability to consume a varied diet, and clarity of speech. Once the dental implants have time to fuse with the gums and jawbone, well attach a fixed or removable partial or full denture custom crafted for each patient. This makes the dental implant placement and restoration process much more feasible.
Dental implants are small, titanium posts that mimic the function of tooth roots. Implanted below the gums, these titanium posts are versatile enough to support any number of replacement teeth. Unlike more traditional tooth replacement methods, dental implant supported tooth replacement allows patients to replace the entire lost tooth structure roots and crowns without relying on support from healthy teeth and gums that may be damaged or weakened when supporting replacement teeth.
Third molars, commonly referred to as wisdom teeth, are often extracted because they pose a threat to the overall state of patients oral health. Many people do not have adequate space in their smile line to accommodate this final set of teeth. The result is shifting teeth, inability of the wisdom teeth to erupt from the gums (impaction), and other oral health concerns. Rather than undergo complex procedures to accommodate these unnecessary teeth, we typically remove them to prevent issues from arising.
Many young patients experience impaction, the inability of a tooth to erupt from the gums, as their primary or adult teeth develop. For children who experience impaction in their primary canine teeth, well surgically remove the baby tooth and place a guide that encourages the adult tooth to develop and erupt naturally. If children do not have impaction of their primary canines, they may still have on or more impacted adult canine teeth. When this happens, we perform a combination of surgeries and orthodontic treatments to guide the tooth into the proper position within the smile.
Patients may need jaw surgery for a variety of reasons. Following traumatic injury, the jawbone or muscles may need to be reconstructed to restore function. Jaw surgery may be necessary to prepare patients to receive dental implants. One of the most common jaw surgeries offered are treatments for patients suffering from temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. The TMJ are tiny joints connecting the jaw to the skull. When these are strained or damaged, the result is pain, limited jaw mobility, and other concerns. In some cases, surgical treatment is necessary to relieve TMJ pain and renew function.
Sometimes referred to as root end surgery, apicoectomies are performed as a last effort to save teeth following a failed root canal procedure. Root canals are necessary when damage or decay affects the interior layer of the tooth known as the pulp.
A root canal removes the pulp and nerve of the tooth, replaces it with a biocompatible material, and reseals the treated tooth. In some cases, additional decay or damage may happen for a number of reasons:
In these and any other instances where a root canal procedure is not completely successful, an apicoectomy can be performed to save the tooth. Rather than drilling through the top of the tooth as is done to remove decayed tissue during a root canal, we remove the tip of one of the tooth roots and extract damaged tissue from below. We then refill the tooth and restore the root tip.
Frenotomies, sometimes referred to as tongue tie surgery, is a procedure where we remove a small amount of excess soft tissue connecting the tongue to the bottom of the mouth, known as the frenum. In most patients, this connective tissue gives them the ability to control their tongue movement for clear speech, but if there is an excess of tissue, the tongue may not be able to move freely as patients speak, chew, and swallow. This can be uncomfortable, but more importantly, it can make daily activities difficult or impossible. During a frenotomy, we carefully remove a precise section of the frenum to improve mobility without impeding patients ability to control the motion of their tongues. Most patients undergo these procedures at a very young age, and we take the utmost care to provide gentle treatment for these young patients.
Whether patients have experienced facial trauma, have difficulty with regular daily functions due to irregularities of oral and facial structures, or are simply unhappy with the shape of their face, we offer a variety of cosmetic facial surgeries to renew or enhance facials structures. Our team takes the cosmetic ramification of any surgical procedure into consideration before beginning a treatment plan, and some of the most popular facial cosmetic surgeries we perform include the following:
Patients who suffer from sleep apnea, the unconscious cessation of breathing while asleep, know how detrimental this sleep disorder can be to their health. Patients who experience chronic sleep apnea often are exhausted, have elevated blood pressure, struggle to concentrate, and may even experience memory loss. While a visit to a dentist or oral surgeon for sleep apnea treatment isnt necessarily patients first instinct, we are uniquely qualified to treat these disorders as many of them stem from airway blockage due to bite misalignment or improper function in the oral and facial regions.
