All Dental Hygienists in our office have extensive education in helping provide you with the very finest and caring dentistry. New patients often remark, 'I never had a cleaning that good before.' They work very closely with the doctors to return and maintain your mouth in a state of good health, comfort and appearance. So close are the bonds that develop that many patients request the same hygienist time and time again.
Lori I've been a practicing Dental Hygienist for 27 years; 26 of which have been with Dr. Kowalik. I received my degree in Dental Hygiene at Prairie State College in 1981. I enjoy working in the field of dentistry and watching the growth and advancements that dental hygiene and dentistry have made. I'm kept extremely busy outside the office, raising my 4 children and all the activities in which they are involved. My oldest is now a graduate of Millikin University and is employed by Millikin. The second is currently a student at the University of Illinois. The younger two are both in high school and keeping me busy with soccer, volleyball and wrestling.
Mary Jo I graduated from Southern Illinois Univesity, School of Dental Hygiene, in Carbondale, in 1978. After practicing in Herrin, Illinois, and working in a pediatric dental office for a few years, I moved to the Chicago area and have been working for Dr. Kowalik for 23 years. It's great seeing all of the familiar faces year after year, as well as meeting new people all of the time. I enjoy taking courses regularly to continue my education and I plan to continue my work for many years to come.
The dental assistants in our office are exceptionally talented in providing czarist support for all of the procedures that the doctors provide. Each has to be ready to provide whatever the doctor or the patient needs at split-second notice. While the dentist is focused on the job at hand, his assistant is closely monitoring the status of the patient while at the same time providing to the needs of the doctor - it's a very intense, demanding position.
Behind the scenes, the dental assistants are cleaning and setting up the treatment rooms, providing medications for the patients, taking and developing x-rays, arranging laboratory work and sterilizing instruments.
