Dr. Phillip Kemp has been practicing family and cosmetic dentistry in the Nashville area for over 30 years opening his private practice in 1988 with the goal to provide quality dentistry to his patients. Dr. Kemps passion for dentistry flows from a heart that loves to help others look and feel their best, so they can go and impact the world.
Dr. Kemp is a very skilled cosmetic dentist. He is one of only 350 dentists in the world accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry where he has been a member since 1998. He served two terms on the AACDs Board of Trustees. During his tenure, he helped oversee the Give Back A Smile Program which provides cosmetic dental services to victims of domestic violence. While serving on the Board of Trustees, he chaired the Domestic Violence Survivor Committee. Dr. Kemp won the Partner in Peace Award in 2008 and 2009 for his work with the Give Back a Smile Program and domestic violence. In 2012, Dr. Kemp was awarded the Humanitarian of the Year at the annual meeting of the AACD in Washington DC.
Because of his leadership in the AACD, he was nominated to serve on the Professional Education Committee, which organizes all educational meetings for the academy. He served for three years on this committee and in 2009 co-chaired the 25th Annual Meeting in Hawaii. He was instrumental in helping develop the AACDs online learning platform serving as co-chair for the Technology and E-learning Committee. Dr. Kemp has been a speaker at several national and international AACD meetings, including Vancouver, San Diego, Atlanta and Hawaii. He has also spoken at the Tennessee chapter of the AACD. He lectures frequently at the University of Tennessee, College of Dentistry and at Meharry School of Dentistry. He has served on the Board of Trustees for the Nashville Dental Society and is a member of the Tennessee Dental Association and the American Dental Association.
Dr. Kemp is considered an expert in dental photography. He has been asked to speak at numerous dental meetings on the subject of photography including the Annual Sessions of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He has spoken for the Tennessee Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the University of Tennessee Dental School. He serves as an advisor to camera companies and produced an educational video with Calumet Photographic titled Digital Dental Photography. Dr. Kemp is also an avid sports and portrait photographer.
Dr. Kemp serves as a key opinion leader and educator for many dental companies, testing products, developing procedures, and leading educational initiatives. He is currently on the advisory board for Contemporary Product Solutions and has served as co-editor for their publication for three years.
Dr. Kemp is the founder ofHope Smiles, a nonprofit dental organization that provides care for people in underserved areas in the US, Uganda, China and Haiti. These services are made possible through generous community and private financial support, donated materials and volunteer dental professionals. Hope Smiles has organized many dental serve trips to China, Uganda, Haiti, and local and rural areas throughout Tennessee, Texas, and Washington D.C. In China, Uganda and Haiti, most of the care occurs in orphanages and care centers for very poor and underserved.
A native Middle Tennessean, Dr. Kemp lives in Brentwood with his wife of over 30 years, Rhonda, and their four children Tyler, Nolan, Peyton and Macy Li who they adopted from China in 2008. He loves hunting, coaching, photography, and spending time with his family.
