For 4 decades, I suffered from what is called a sleep disordered breathing. My snoring with age turned into obstructed sleep apnea and I showed all the signed and symptoms of OSA. In 2015 after being diagnosed with OSA, I started oral appliance therapy to treat my OSA. This was life changing for me and that is when I decided to dedicate my career to treat patients with sleeping disordered breathing.
I started by becoming a diplomate for the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. After having perfected treating adult patients with OTA, I progressed to treat children who suffered from sleep disordered breathing. We started screening young patients for breathing issues. We observed the ones who were mouth breathers and now offer the Healthy Start program. These are oral appliances habit correctors that help to encourage nasal breathing, proper swallowing, and help to guide the growing dentition into proper alignment.
