As a willful 10-year-old, her first visit to the dentist was intimidating and painful, which ignited a desire to make sure that no one else would suffer the same experience. And at that moment, she realized what she wanted to be when she grew up as well as her mission once she reached her goal. She aimed to be the kind of dentist she wanted for herself someone who would make her feel cared for, listened to and respected. And now as a practicing dentist for nearly three decades, she continues to strive toward fulfilling that childhood dream.
To deliver the type of care that her patients deserve, Dr. Yip sees everyone who enters her office as a whole person, not just someone who needs their teeth fixed. This is reflected in her areas of clinical interest, which include education, nutrition, prevention, as well as restorative and cosmetic aspects of dentistry.
A proud native San Franciscan, Dr. Yip completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Physiology from San Francisco State University in 1989 and attended the University of California, San Francisco, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Dental Materials and Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees in 1994. While at UCSF, she also completed an advanced TMJD/Orofacial Pain Study Group.
Additionally, Dr. Yip served as a part-time Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF. While she enjoyed teaching for 16 years, she decided to take a leave of absence when her second child was born to focus on her family and the continued care of her patients. Although her schedule keeps her busy, she still finds time to advise and mentor students. She also continues to be an active participant in her dental fraternity on a local and national level to help nurture and guide future generations of dentists.
Her tireless dedication to her patients, students and protgs has been recognized and honored by a variety of groups and organizations. Dr. Yip was ranked as one of Berkeleys Top Dentists by her peers, and awarded a Fellowship in the American College of Dentists for her exceptional leadership, achievements, involvement in the dental profession and our community, and ethics. Dr. Yip was also awarded the Small Business Excellence Award from the City of Berkeley.
The National Consumer Advisory Board named her as one of Americas Best Dentists, Dental Insider recognized her as one of the Best of Berkeley in patient satisfaction, Expertise also listed her as one of the Best Dentists in Berkeley, and she was voted as one of the Top Rated Dentists in the Bay Area by Consumers CheckBook. In addition to her dedication and love of dentistry, Dr. Yip enjoys spending time with her family and friends, creating and cooking delicious, healthy meals and snacks, reading, music, the great outdoors, and traveling. She remains very active within Xi Psi Phi International Dental Fraternity.
Kathy was born and raised in Berkeley. California. She graduated from Chabot College in 1989 with her Dental Assisting license and has since been with the same dental practicefirst with Dr. Sullivan until 1994, then with Dr. Yip when she took over the practice. Kathy serves as both RDA and Office Manager for Dr. Yip. She is a dedicated, knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, caring, and empathetic individual. She is a true asset to the practice and Dr. Yips right hand person. Kathy really enjoys music, especially from her favorite musician, singer, songwriter, Prince. She is his number one fan and had never missed a show or concert. She also enjoys clothes and shoe shopping.
Evader was born in Richmond, California and grew up in the Oakland/Berkeley area. She received her Dental Assisting license from Chabot College in 1985 and her Extended Function Certificate from SFSU. She has been married for 35 years and is the mother of five. When not at work, Evader spends time cooking and feeding the less fortunate. She enjoys singing, baking, and spending time with her six grandchildren.
Janet grew up in the Bay Area. She graduated from Bryman Corinthian College in San Francisco as a Registered Dental Assistant in 1998 and has worked with Dr. Yip for more than 15 years. Janet is very knowledgeable, caring, friendly, and an integral part of our team. She takes great pride in helping with preventive care, patient education, and taking care of the back office. She enjoys the caring and professional office environment, her friendly coworkers, and tending to each patients specific needs. When not working, Janet enjoys nature, writing, painting, and helping people.
Andi is native to the Bay Area. After receiving her Bachelors degree in Health Science from St. Marys College in 1998, she sharpened her infection control skills while culturing cells for a few local biopharmaceutical companies. After a decade of customer service work, she realized she wanted to make a difference in the health of others and returned to school to study dental hygiene and graduated from Chabot College in 2011. She is also a member of the California Dental Hygienists Association. In her free time she enjoys whipping up allergy-free foods, gardening, running, hiking, being in nature, reading sci-fi books, and having pull-up contests with her brother and sister. If she can recognize the vegetable stuck between your teeth, you need to chew more thoroughly.
Katie grew up in Rochester, NY and earned her Bachelors degree from the University of Pennsylvania before moving to the Bay Area in 1998. After spending some time in the field of corporate retail, Katie decided to fulfill a childhood desire to work in dentistry. She received her Dental Hygiene degree from Chabot College in 2011 and has been a member of Dr. Yips team since February of 2012. She is also a member of the California Dental Hygienists Association. In addition to loving her career and coworkers, Katie enjoys running, riding her bike to the top of big hills, reading and live music. She lives in Oakland with her two children.
