Dr. Vaughan earned his Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh and his D.M.D. (Doctor of Medical Dentistry) degree from the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Dental Medicine. Dr. Vaughan successfully completed a one-year advanced education in general dentistry residency at Ft. Benning, Georgia. He served as a Dental Officer in the United States Army during both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Dr. Vaughan was the Senior Dental Officer and Triage Officer for the 21st Combat Support Hospital. After Dr. Vaughan completed his duties in the Army he returned to his hometown in Western Pennsylvania and joined Dr. Romans dental practice in July of 2004. Dr. Vaughan is the Forensic Odontologist for Washington County and continues his Military Career as the Chief Dental Officer of the 171st ARW Air National Guard Base in Pittsburgh. He and his wife Adrienne are natives of Peters Township and are pleased to be raising their four children, Alex, Cassidy, Ryan, and Dylan in the Washington County area. Dr. Vaughan is committed to furthering his dental education as a member of the Spear Dental Study Club and attends Continuing Education at The Spear Dental Institute in Scottsdale Arizona. Dr. Vaughans treatment philosophy is to treat every patient with compassion and understanding and to make each dental visit as comfortable for the patient as possible.
Dr. Yokum attended West Virginia University for both her undergraduate and graduate education and completed her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 2010. During her time at WVU, she was awarded special recognition for her research and interest in dental care for special needs patients.
After graduating from dental school, Dr. Yokum accepted a position at E. A. Hawse Health Center in Baker, WV. She practiced there for over four years before moving back to Pennsylvania to be near family. She has also worked for the SMILE program and was a part-time faculty member at WVU, teaching and supervising dental students in their student clinic. Dr. Yokum and her husband, Samuel Casey Yokum PharmD, have a son, Salvatore, and daughter, Antonia, and reside in Houston, PA.
Dr. Yokum understands that every patient and their dental history is unique and takes the time to listen to any concerns or apprehensions they may have. Dr. Yokum puts forth every effort to make each dental experience pleasant and encourages any questions patients may have about their recommended treatment.
Denise is a registered Dental Hygienist. She has extensive experience in periodontal care including subgingival scaling and root planning, periodontal maintenance procedures, soft tissue management and in using the Zoom whitening system. Denises work philosophy is to treat her patients the way she would want to be treated. Denise strives to make her patients feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible during dental procedures.
Kathryn has extensive training in digital x-rays, caries prevention, and periodontal maintenance procedures including subgingival scaling and root planning and soft tissue management. She enjoys helping patients overcome their dental fears by thoroughly explaining procedures and ensuring every patient is comfortable and relaxed.
Violetta has been one of our Dental Administration coordinators since 1991. She handles insurance, billing, account management, scheduling, treatment plans, and many of the other duties that go with helping run a busy dental practice. Violetta is a graduate of WVA Career College in dental assisting and office management. A Certified Expanded Function dental assistant by training, Violetta brings this special skill when communicating with our patients about their treatments. In her free time, Violetta enjoys spending time with her children Alisha and Gregory and her grandchildren.
Cynthia works in the front office as treatment plan coordinator, scheduler, and insurance and billing specialist. She is also a licensed expanded function dental assistant and is x-ray and CPR certified. She has been a member of our staff since 1980. In her free time, Cynthia enjoys crafting, acrylic painting, shopping, and spending time with her family.
Emily is one of our chair side dental assistants. Emily is also a Certified Expanded Function Dental Assistant. Emily earned her certification from the National Dental Assisting Board in 1986, and has completed courses in intraoral radiography, infection control, and OSHA regulations. She has earned her CPR certification from the American Heart Association. Emily is proficient in composite restoration placement, temporary fabrication, and dental cosmetics. Emily has been a member of the practice since 1991.
Jenifer is one of our chair side assistants. She handles monthly maintenance for our office, orders supplies, and is our lab case coordinator. During her many years of assisting, Jenifer has kept up to date with dental advances through many hours of continuing education programs. Shes also certified in x-rays and CPR. Jenifer has been a member of our staff since 1993. Jenifer is proficient in composite restoration placement, temporary crown fabrication, and assisting in endodontic procedures. Jenifer and her husband enjoy spending time with their sons Connor and Caleb and watching motocross and football. She keeps busy with housework and yard work.
Janet graduated from Jefferson Community College with a degree in dental assisting. Janet is x-ray and CPR certified. She is one of our very talented chair side assistants and assists doctors in all aspects of our busy dental practice. Janet has worked in dentistry since 1989 and has been with our practice since 2006, making her a wonderful asset to our team. Janet enjoys family time, reading, and gardening.
