Cocoa Village Dentistry - General dentist in Cocoa, FL

Although born in Indiana, Dr. Lunstrum spent most of his early years in Tallahassee. Following his undergraduate studies in Biology at Florida State University in 1997, Dr. Lunstrum attended the University Of Florida College Of Dentistry, graduating in 2001 with his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree.

September 11, 2001 was his second day of work as an associate in Tallahassee. Having joined the National Guard during dental school, he soon found himself working many weekends screening troops being deployed overseas. He was called to active duty in late 2005, serving as a dentist at Camp Phoenix an army base outside of Kabul, Afghanistan. He made multiple trips into Kabul and the countryside treating local people, most of whom had never seen a dentist.

Upon his return from active service, Dr. Lunstrum purchased this practice. He was drawn to the Space Coast by its beauty and comfortable afternoon summer breezes with the proximity to cruise ports being an added bonus. He found the location of the office on the Indian River to be very tranquil and relaxing, which is an ideal atmosphere for a dental practice!

Dr. Lunstrum and his wife Cheryl were married in 1984, have two sons, and 3 cats. Cheryl is the Practice Administrator as well as being an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant. They have worked with each other for many years, both in Cocoa and Tallahassee.

He frequently attends advanced continuing education courses some years attaining over 150 hours, far in excess of the 30 hours required by the State Board of Dentistry every two years. This allows him to stay current on new materials and procedures.

I absolutely love this place!!! The staff, Dr. Lundstrum, office environment, etc. Ive been going here for over 20 years and actually drive an hour to go there. I look forward to the cozy chairs, great people and enjoyable atmosphere. Ive never had a bad experience and have always enjoyed them all. The most up-to-date equipment and facility and great view of the river! Thank you all for all that youve done for me and my family through out the years!!!!

Best dentist I have ever had! My visits have been pain free, and he is always willing to give the Novocaine more time, or another dose. I live in Palm Bay now, but I still travel cross county for his services. Highly, highly, recommended!

I just moved to the area and have found my forever dentist! So happy with my experience! Hygienists are great! Techs are great! Receptionists are great! And Dr. Lunstrum is great! And they can make you a permanent crown/cap while you wait! Thank you for everything Cocoa Village Dentistry. See you soon!

Thank you Dr. Lunstrum for the great experience and quality work you have done on my teeth. I am usually apprehensive about needles and it was no sweat at all. In fact, I am ready for the next needle, thanks to your gentle touch. I have been very pleased with your professional, yet personable, service.

I sincerely appreciate Dr. Lunstrum and the staff in providing a welcoming environment and comforting experience. The office is neat, clean, orderly, and efficient; yet it provides a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff is knowledgeable, professional, and very friendly. My wife and I have been visiting this dentistry for more years than I can recall. We never had any reason to complain, only positive experiences. In the past, we have recommended this dentistry to friends of ours, and we continue to recommend this office to anyone looking for a dentist.

Utilizing this cutting edge CAD/CAM technology here at Cocoa Village Dentistry has proven to be very popular with our patients. For a majority of cases, no longer does one need to wait a couple of weeks for a crown to be fabricated at a dental lab while you have a temporary crown in place. In addition to the benefit of this being single visit dentistry, the precision of the fit (which is crucial for long term success) is excellent thanks to the imaging and milling accuracy which is measured in microns (thousandths of a millimeter)!

The first thing thats different from older style methods for fabricating crowns is the lack of impression trays filled with goo that needed to stay in the mouth for several minutes. With CEREC, we instead use a small intraoral video camera to image the teeth its truly fascinating to watch.

After acquiring those images, all that information is processed by the computer into virtual 3D models. Its upon those models that the restoration is designed. Restorations which are capable of being fabricated utilizing CEREC include crowns, inlays, onlays, veneers, and even short span fixed bridges.

Once the design phase is complete the computer transmits the information to the milling unit. A solid block of ceramic is placed into the milling chamber and the restoration is sculpted by two precision high speed diamond burs under copious water spray for cooling purposes. Within 10-15 minutes the milling is complete.

We have several types of block material to choose from depending on the type of restoration as well as esthetic and structural considerations. Many of the blocks we use actually start out PURPLE in color! After the milling is complete the restoration is placed into a porcelain furnace which reaches temperatures of 1,600 F! At those temperatures the crystalline structure, and with it the color, of the blocks are changed.
