Born in New Jersey and of Colombian heritage, Dr. Nancy Torres received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Colombian College of Dentistry. As a prerequisite for graduation, Dr. Nancy worked in a rural village for one year, where she discovered that working with children was the most fulfilling part of her young career. With a new passion for early dental care, she then moved back to the United States and completed a two-year residency program in pediatric dentistry at Emory University and Scottish Rite Children's Hospital in Atlanta.
After completing her postgraduate studies, Dr. Nancy worked for three years as Chief of Pediatric Dentistry at Jackson Memorial Hospital, the largest hospital in the Miami area. Then in 1989, she moved to Martin County to open her private practice, Children's Dentistry of Stuart, P.A.
Since founding Childrens Dentistry of Stuart, Dr. Nancy has been a firm believer in continuing education and attends pediatric dental seminars two to three times a year to stay up-to-date with the best equipment, instruments, new technology, and materials in childrens dentistry in order to give the best to her patients. Today, Dr. Nancy is proud to be an expert in a wide range of dental treatments, including multiple forms of sedation dentistry. Dr. Nancy is also a member of the American Dental Association, both the American and Florida Academy of Pediatric Dentists, and the Southeastern Society for Children.
Since she opened her practice in Stuart, FL, Dr. Nancy has dedicated and still dedicates part of her time to give back to the communities surrounding her childrens dentistry practice. She has donated time with Headstart, Hibiscus House, and Pre-K programs in Martin County, along with adopting a kindergarten class every year. Dr. Nancy and her staff members regularly visit schools and daycare centers in the Stuart, FL area to keep children and their parents informed of proper dental care. Dr. Nancy also makes sure she continues to provide dental care to underprivileged children, donating toothbrushes and toothpaste to local children and to missionary trips.
Dr. Nancy loves to be involved with the recreation in her community, so she often sponsors local sports teams and enjoys going to flag football, T-ball, and soccer games, as well as her own children's sports activities.
Dr. Nancy has one son and one daughter. Her son Joey is a graduate of the University of Central Florida with a degree in business administration. Her daughter Julie is committed to following in her mom's footsteps and has joined the practice as a pediatric dentist.
Dr. Julie A. Sugar is a board-certified pediatric dentist and the daughter of Dr. Nancy! Just like her mom, Dr. Sugar is passionate about providing the best childrens dental care possible to patients in the Stuart and Palm City, FL areas. Dr. Sugar feels so fortunate that she is able to join Dr. Nancy at the office that first inspired her to pursue her passion for pediatric dentistry.
Dr. Julie Sugars path to pediatric dentistry started almost three decades ago right here in Stuart, Florida, at Childrens Dentistry of Stuart. What began as a fun place to play with the other kids, evolved into a place where Dr. Sugar would spend her high school summers helping her mom, Dr. Nancy. Dr. Sugar began to admire her moms love for her patients and her profession and began developing a strong interest in pediatric dentistry.
Dr. Sugar received her bachelors degree in food science and human nutrition from the University of Florida. She went on to complete her professional education at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale. During her fourth year of dental school, she was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Epsilon
