Dr. Jamie Callahan, DMD, graduated with a BA in business from the University of Florida in 1996 and also earned his DMD from the University of Florida in 2000. Following graduation, Dr. Callahan completed a year long hospital based dental residency with an emphasis on surgery at the University of Washington, where he spent time in 4 different hospitals including working in a children's hospital and a level one trauma center. That experience was invaluable training in learning to treat our growing number of medically complex patients.
Dr. Callahan is a member of the American Dental Association, the Florida Dental Association, and the Escambia-Santa Rosa Dental Association. He was the past president of the Esca_Rosa Dental Association and served on the board for 4 years. For the past 5 years he has served on the advisory panel for the Dental Hygiene degree program at Pensacola State College.
Dr. Steve Smith, DMD, is a native of Pensacola and provides Comprehensive Dental Care at Bayou Dental. He graduated from Wake Forest University in 2009 and then accepted an Officer Commission into the U.S. Navy through the Health Services Collegiate Program. He attended the University of Alabama School of Dentistry at UAB in Birmingham, AL, and graduated in 2014.
Dr. Smith completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, during which he gained extensive training in Oral Surgery, Digital Dentistry, and General Dentistry Treatment planning. His Navy career led Dr. Smith to serve as Department Head of the Naval Family Branch Health Clinic in Atsugi, Japan and then returned to Pensacola to Head the Dental Clinic of the Naval Air Technical Training Center.
Dr Smith is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the EscaRosa Dental Society. He also has served as a Team Trainer for the American Hospital Associations TeamSTEPPs curriculum. He is committed to providing the highest quality of dental care to his patients and seeks to promote high reliability and patient safety through a strong commitment to teamwork and communication.
Ana was born in Brazil, she attended the Catholic University and earned her Bachelor's degree in 1998. She moved to the USA in 2000 to experience life abroad. Ana completed her Associates degree in Dental Hygiene in 2010, then began to work for Dr. Callahan the same year. Anas favorite thing about her time as a hygienist is to help her patients lead healthier lives. She enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors with family.
Ariel attended Fortis Institute and obtained her certification in Dental assisting in 2018 and started working as an assistant at Bayou Dental in 2019. She enjoys cosmetic dentistry and oral surgery. She loves to help transform a smile and to help patients who are in pain.
Dawn joined the dental field in 1990, shes versatile and loves being part of a team, her favorite part of dentistry is meeting all the patients and watching how cosmetic dentistry can transform a patients life by giving them a beautiful smile, shes a native of Pensacola, she loves spending her time relaxing at the beach, or spending time with her family and friends.
Helena graduated from the dental assisting program at Pensacola State College in 2004 and has been working as the insurance coordinator and in the front office of Bayou Dental since 2004. She thinks the best part about dentistry is seeing the patients smile.
Lisa is a native Floridian and graduated from Pensacola State College with an Associate of Science Degree from the Dental Hygiene Department in 2001. She began working for Bayou Dental in November 2001. Lisa loves working in dentistry and appreciates the unique opportunity to positively affect each patients overall health while focusing on helping patients to have excellent oral hygiene.
Bayou Dental began our patient driven conservative and comprehensive dental care in 1983 when Dr. James Callahan, Sr, DDS opened his practice off Bayou Blvd. in Pensacola, FL. His son James (Jamie) Callahan, Jr., DMD joined the practice in 2001 and now continues a family tradition of serving the Pensacola community and surrounding areas with comprehensive dental treatment. Dr. Callahan, Sr. retired in 2012 after working as a dentist for approximately 40 years. Dr. Jamie Callahan recently celebrated his 20th anniversary of graduating from dental school in 2020. In April of 2021, Pensacola native Dr. Steve Smith joined the Bayou Dental team. He previously served 7 years as a Dental Officer in the U.S. Navy, and continues his service to the Pensacola Community and its many Veterans and Military Families.
